Life Story Features of St. Pio

Elements incorporated into the shrine

PURGATORY

LOWER IMAGE BEHIND STATUE: St. Pio had an enormous compassion for the poor souls in Purgatory.  “The souls in Purgatory pray for us, and their prayers are even more effective than ours, because they are accompanied by their suffering. So, let’s pray for them, and let’s pray them to pray for us.” —St. Padre Pio

BLESSED MOTHER

TOP IMAGE BEHIND HEAD OF STATUE: St. Pio possessed a great love of the Virgin Mary, and the Rosary—and remained close to her during his many times of trial. He attributed everything to the Blessed Mother and believed her powerful intercession could heal both soul and body.

GUARDIAN ANGELS

St. Pio often worked through people’s guardian angels to help them. He communicated with angels frequently. “How close to us stands one of the celestial spirits, who from the cradle to the grave never leaves us for an instant. He guides us, he protects us like a friend, like a brother. This should be a source of constant consolation for us, especially during the saddest times of our lives.” —St. Padre Pio
